When I booked with Equagringo and Capt Carlos Andres I knew my time was limited to early summer when traditionally the numbers are likely a bit lower than at other times around Jan or Feb. I have come close several times and also came close once again with Ecuagringo. ![]() We are currently working with our travel agent to get our money back: but this company doesn't care about this situation.Aside from my work-a-day regular job, I am an avid offshore angler and an occasional mate and captain who has, when my limited budget permits, had the good fortune of fishing for marlin, sails, and swords in a number of exotic places around the world, but have not yet been able to get my first billfish 'slam' (three or more billfish of differing species in one day). The restaurant breakfast buffet was not very good. Her explanation for this upcharge was that the reservations were made in my wife's name and not my name. ![]() Next she increased the Taxes: from $9.00 to $36.00. We paid the extra money under protest!!! The front desk manager was RUDE, UNFRIENDLY & CHEATED us out of almost $200. The end result: she would not give us what we paid. We kept showing her the emails confirming the price and that our reservations were for a beach front room. She also said that our reservations for a beach front room would NOT be honored and that if we didn't want a parking lot view, we would have to pay extra for the upgrade. However the night manager said that it wasn't showing up in her system with our agreed upon price. We showed this night manager our reservation tickets "CONFIRMED by both, our travel agent & the hotel". ![]() She, representing this hotel, proceeded to explain to us that our reservation price would NOT be honored and that we were required to pay additional money: increasing our room price by 27%. She was by far the most unfriendly employee of a resort hotel that I have ever encountered in my years of traveling. She appeared to be a very unhappy person and in the 30 minutes that it took for us to be checked in: she never smiled once. We arrived here, to the Mantahost Hotel late at night and was greeted by the most unfriendly night manager. We used a reputable travel agent to set up our reservations. We traveled here from Charleston, South Carolina. We felt safe here as the restaurant complied with health measures during this pandemic. The restaurant is great, we could enjoyed of excellent Ecuadorian food with an amazing ocean view in the balcony. Big mistake, as we ended up going to another hotel where we were disappointed and we regretted that we canceled the original MantaHost reservation. My wife and I planned an 8-day trip to Manta and originally had booked the MantaHost but we canceled the reservation because (we thought) it was dated due to reviews from other guests so we feared it wouldn’t be a good stay. We wished we would have stayed here for our entire trip to Manta. The room was clean and looked like it was recently remodeled. Our room was on level 5 with a balcony and an awesome view of the ocean. We ended up staying one more day in Manta due to the license plate restrictions imposed by the government and we did not want to stay one more day in our prior hotel anymore. We stayed in MantaHost for our last day during our visit to Manta. Barcelo Bavaro Palace All Inclusive Resort. ![]()
